Sunday sketch #513
Ever since I designed Fizz, I’ve been playing with the double drunkard’s path shape (made a million times easier to sew by Jenny Haynes’ templates). It’s such a fun and versatile shape!

See what I mean?!?
I started with four leaf shapes pointing inwards, added sashing of the same thickness, then coloured in the sashing with a cross, just for some visual interest. Then it made sense to join up the sashing between the bow blocks. SO FUN!
This design looks super-cute in a two-colour palette…

…or with filled-in loops…

…in a limited palette of three colours…

…or a much larger palette of a kajillion colours…

and even set on point!

My favourite is definitely the three-colour version though.

Now, if you were to make the loops using Jenny Haynes’ 7″ templates, each bow block would end up being 31.5″ square. Which is kind of a lot. This 3 × 3 layout, with border, would make a quilt almost 100″ square. Yikes.
So, maybe a 2 × 2 layout makes more sense, or maybe you use Jenny’s 3.5″ templates (eek!!) templates instead. Or you draft your own templates for a smaller curve. I love (LOVE!) this design, but I know I can’t sew a 3.5″ double drunkard’s curve with anything approaching accuracy or smoothness. And I don’t really want to make a super-sized quilt. So I guess I need to decide between a smaller layout or a self-drafted template!
