The last few quilts I’ve made have featured curves, and I’m getting better at piecing thinner curves. As a result, I’m thinking about curves and their possibilities a bit more!

I love a meandering curve, and the double layer I’ve used here means I can alternate colours in interesting ways. This is a block-based design, with the block having curves in two diagonally opposed corners. Rotating the blocks randomly, and sometimes colouring in only one of the two corners, produces an apparently random, kinda biological design.

I started off with a more regular layout, which I also like, but I wanted to introduce more of that chaotic, natural feel.

And I tried to get a bit of a balance between the two colours, including making sure that I had a standalone bubble of each colour. And maybe a few corners in different colours to prompt the question of whether you’re looking at globules of colour A on colour B, or vice versa.

But other than that, the possibilities felt almost endless. I won’t show you too many versions, but you get the idea.
