Sunday sketch #519

I’ve made a few quilts recently that used slightly ‘different’ curves – that is, ones I hadn’t sewn before. So I’ve started designing more with them, too.

I’m used to sewing drunkard’s path units / quarter circles, and also the 7″ double drunkard’s path units using Jenny Haynes’ templates. But I haven’t done a whole lot of curved piecing beyond that. I guess Moonshot was probably one of the first times I moved outside my curvy comfort zone.

Anyway, this week’s sketch features quarter circle curves, but they’re skinnier than I’m used to sewing. But the more I sew ‘unusual’ (to me) curves, the more I think I could probably handle these. Possibly the more difficult aspect of this quilt for me would be keeping those long lines perfectly straight 🙂 That’s probably the main reason I don’t design more with skinny strips.

This week’s sketch reminds me a little of Sunday sketches #225, #226 and #227 (from October/November 2020!). Curves paired with bold lines seems to work well!
