Sunday sketch #536

It’s been a while since I’ve used the pointed arch (or Gothic arch) shape in a design, but it’s still a shape I like and want to use more. (And one I have to get around to sewing eventually….)

This is a design from back in July; it ended up prompting a few other designs, some of which I’ve already shared. It’s funny how easily one design iterates to another, and so on and so forth, until I get a series of connected sketches. That’s probably my favourite part of quilt making.

Anyway, I’m not sure this is ever one I’d make, but I like how that pointed arch can connect the curves of adjacent quarter-circles, giving a kind of crossing-over point for colour. That connection’s definitely inspired some other ideas.

This design gives a fun sort of 3D effect, which I guess I could’ve leaned into more with the right colours. But this was just a bit of an experiment, and then I moved on!
