Sunday sketch #516

I keep thinking that I’m relying too much on transparency lately, and then I keep designing Sunday sketches that use transparency. Oh well!

Tennis, anyone? I can’t help it; the circles remind me of tennis balls, flying this way and that.

I’ve purposefully left a few spaces empty, to help draw the eye around the design a bit.

A fuller design could feel a bit heavy, although replacing the dark blue with a paler colour can help to lighten things up. I still feel like there’s movement in this next version, even though it’s a mostly (though not completely) regular, repetitive design.

If I actually wanted to make this one, I might make the circles a little bigger, and introduce some empty space (mostly to reduce the number of curves needed!). Now it feels a bit bubblier.

And I like the idea of at least one circle floating out on its own, with no overlaps and hence no transparency 🙂

I’m sure I’ve mentioned before that I’ve never sewn an orange peel. (No real reason why not; I just haven’t needed to make one yet.) But this design’s all orange peels and quarter-circles (or drunkard’s paths), plus bits of sashing. That’s be one way to get good at making orange peels!
