Sunday sketch #539
Another throwback to an older design this week, with a slight revamp of a past Sunday sketch.

I wonder if you can tell what sketch this week’s design is based on?
I was playing with Sunday sketch #322 (I occasionally go back to older designs, just to see if I can improve on them), and discovered that a slight tweak to the design and a different colour palette/placement produce a fun new design. So here it is!
I’m not sure if it’s the palette or the placement, but I really love this update. It reminds me of that stretchy packing material made from recycled cardboard (which Google tells me is called ‘honeycomb wrap’). It’s like someone’s grabbed both sides and stretched the design horizontally, opening up the latticework to reveal those dark blue diamonds.
The design works with a bit less negative space at the top and bottom, too.

Although I prefer those extra expanses of colour.

Like the original sketch, this one’s just rectangles and half-rectangle triangles (HRTs). If you super-sized them, you’d be able to cut and piece a quilt top in no time. For example, 5″ x 10″ units in this layout would make a quilt measuring 70″ x 80″ with (I think?) only 50 HRTs – the rest is rectangles and borders. And the HRTs appear in pairs, so you could use the two-at-a-time method to save time!
