Sunday sketch #532

A few sketches ago, I talked about a design feeling a bit intestinal… and this one’s giving similar vibes.

I originally designed this one in a horizontal layout, which resembled waves, but I decided I liked the vertical version better. It’s a bit different.

Like in last week’s sketch, I’ve played up the transparency effect here. I think it’s fun, but it’s definitely something I use more in designing than I do in making. It’s easy to play with colours in Electric Quilt 8; I find it harder in real life to find solid fabrics that work as well.

The shapes I’ve used this week are essentially like orange peels, just set vertically. It would require templates to make, but I think they’d be easy enough to draft on plastic. (Like last week’s pointed arch shape, the orange peel is another one I’ve never actually sat down to sew. I really must make a list of things to tackle….)

Anyway, I think this wavy/windy effect is fun, and the sort of thing that could be incorporated as a feature in a larger design.
