Sunday sketch #404

It’s a shame I wasn’t more organised, or I could’ve shared this design closer to Valentine’s Day!

This week’s sketch is the last in a series of five related sketches (starting with Sunday sketch #400) that were all based on the same block: a half-circle, quarter-circle combo that’s been rotated, flipped and coloured in different ways to produce a bunch of unique designs.

This Sunday sketch works in two colours…

…and in three:

When the blocks are coloured slightly differently, you can get a better idea of where they start and finish. You can also see that only some of the blocks have their half-circles coloured in; the rest are really just quarter-circle or drunkard’s path units.

I don’t think I’d ever use that colouring; the vertical lines obscure the hearts too much. I’m calling them hearts, but the shapes also remind me of seedlings sprouting from the earth in neat little rows.

This week’s sketch might be slightly easier/quicker to make than the previous few weeks’, only because half of the blocks are just quarter-circle or drunkard’s path units.

I love exploring how the same shapes can create multiple unique designs just through block and colour placement. It’s one of my favourite parts of modern quilt designing! I hope you’ve enjoyed this series as much as I have 🙂
